I want to think again of dangerous and noble things.
I want to Be light and frolicsome.
I want to be improbable, beautiful, and afraid of nothing,
as though I had wings.

Hello!

My name is Nyssa Brown (Nee-Sah) and I am the big boss behind Expressive Arts YYC.

Here’s a little about me. I live, work, and play in Mohkinss’tis (also known as Calgary in Treaty 7 Territory).

My pronouns are she/her. I am an artist, musician, nature-lover, and Aquarius living with ADHD. And I love to play!

For the last ten years, I have played in very loud bands, and meanwhile began working as a disability support worker.

Over the years, I weaved what I learned as a growing musician with my arts education and acquired disability work experience. I found myself often meeting the challenges of the people I supported in a playful, arts-based way that kept them in charge of their lives.

And then I learned about Expressive Arts Therapy- a relatively new creative field that deeply resonated with the way I instinctively worked with people. It was amazing to me that there was this existing framework that aligned with my vision of harmonizing the naturally therapeutic qualities of art with an accessible, person-centered approach.

I’ve since completed my diploma from Vancouver Expressive Arts, and am now finishing a Master’s degree in Expressive Arts Therapy from the European Graduate School in Switzerland.

Nyssa is a certified Expressive Arts Therapist and a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor.
